Description

Dr Claire Lightowler will deliver the 2017 Sacro Lecture: "The Rhetoric of Preventing Offending: What We Say, What We Do and How We Can Do Better".

Claire is Director of the Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ), which supports improvements in youth justice practice and policy. CYCJ produce resources, provide training and offer advice and support for everyone working with children involved, or at risk of becoming involved, in offending.

Claire has a particular interest in co-production and what this means/can look like in a criminal or youth justice context. She is passionate about ensuring that practitioners and young people supported by the youth justice system have opportunities to share what they know and influence strategic and policy decisions. She has undertaken research into co-production and women’s community justice; user engagement and community justice; practitioner research and knowledge exchange.

In her spare time Claire is on the board of the Life Changes Trust, established to invest £50 million to improve the lives of young care leavers and people with dementia and their carers, where she is the Chair of the People Affected by Dementia Committee.
