These are 4 hour project based workshops on a Saturday afternoon, Each week a different project is embraced. The workshops are priced individually.
ALL LEVELS WELCOME.
This afternoon course is a follow on for those who have attended 'The Sewing Surgery : Make Do and Mend and Intro to Upcycling'. Its also for those who are very curious about clothes. The transformation can be as simple as the change of a button. We will don our creative hats to look at clothing differently, not only for the purpose for which it was intended, dissecting clothes to see how they are made and figuring out the best method to change them.
Please bring a few items of clothing from your wardrobe that you fancy reinventing into a new style. This course will combine hands on and demonstrative skills.
In todays throw away society, learning to sew is lifelong sustainable skill set that can both save us money and make us money. Reinventing and redesigning allows us to dress individually and find our own style. By investing time to look after, launder and repair our clothing, rather than replacing it, we return to having an emotional connection with our clothes. It helps to consider the journey our clothes make; from the farmer planting the cotton seed, the weaver weaving the cloth, the pattern making, the stitcher and the point of purchase. Our clothes are our second skin and they should be respected.
Christine teaches with patience, enthusiasm, encouragement and experience at every step. Our N.I Sewing Bee Angeline Murphy was once one of her dressmaking students. She has over 25 years experience in fashion, costume, and self employment in Northern Ireland. Her mum taught her to sew when she was 6.
Class sizes are limited to 5 people so that learning is focused and fun.
