The Sawdust Fusiliers: Canadian Forestry Corps in Devon, 1916-1919
Event Information
Description
This talk examines the accomplishments made by the Canadian Forestry Corps in Devon during the First World War, on the site of their base on the Stover Estate near Newton Abbot. It examines the various logging operations which were established throughout the county to meet the insatiable demand for timber on the Western Front. Equally important, it explores the interactions between the Canadians and their British hosts as they lived, loved and worked in the county between June 1916 and November 1918.
Dr Kent Fedorowich is Reader in British Imperial and Commonwealth History at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Tickets are free but places are limited and must be booked in advance. Complimentary refreshments.
