The Science of Ceramics: Chemistry in a Cup! (ages 8+) SOLD OUT!
Tue 25 October 2016, 10:00 – 13:00 BST
Workshop Theme: 'The Science of Ceramics' : Make and Decorate your own Clay Cup!
Recommended Ages: 8+. Students will be working individually. Please contact us if you are unsure of suitability.
Description: Have you mined clay in Minecraft? Where does clay come from? and why is this material so special?
This workshop explores the science of clay - the qualities and properties that make it particularly good for forming objects that we can eat and drink out of.
We begin with an open discussion, leading into demonstrations of techniques and resulting in each child having coil-built and decorated their own cup. The cups will be taken away and fired with a clear glaze, ready for use as a drinking vessel. We will email you when they are ready to be picked up.
Please Bring: Snack/drink for mid-session break, any objects you want to use to make clay impressions, and wear old clothes or an apron, as we may get messy!
Transport: There is 1hr free parking outside the venue, and free street parking nearby. The 5A bus route has plenty of regular buses from the centre of town, and stops next door, outside the Co-op Supermarket in Old London Road.
