A one day international conference on spirituality and Mental Health Awards.

About this Event

This conference with Psychologists, Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Psychiatrists, Imams, Scholars, chaplains, and Mental Health Practitioners aims to raise awareness and provide authentic positions of key issues related to mental health within the Muslim community.

Topics include: jinn possession (al-mass), ruqya (spiritual healing), evil eye (al-‘ayn), black magic (al-sihr).

Why attend the conference?

• Meet international clergy and professionals working in the Psychology and mental health sector.

• Speak and discuss with international area experts concerning issues and concepts surrounding Islamic Counselling and Psychology.

• Be part of a discussion that aims to enhance and re-define the Islamic Spirituality and mental health practices.

There will also be certification handed out to the Alif Institute counseling graduates.

• *Dr Alizi Alias* (Former Assistant Professor Of Psychology at the International Islamic University Malaysia - IIUM - Currently, General Manager (Human Capital) at an-Nur Specialist Hospital)

• *Prof G. Hussein Rassool* (Director of Inter Cultural Therapy Centre, Mauritius, Prof of Islamic Psychology at Rhipa University, Pakistan, fellow at the Alif Institute, department of Islamic Psychology)

• *Asma Maryam Ali* (B.Ed, M.A in counseling psychology, M.A adult education and community development, University of Toronto, Canada. She is the director of Concentric Care Wellness Services in Canada and Spain. Graduate of the Licensed Islamic Professional Counsellor - LIPC - certification)

• Dr Asim Yusuf, consultant psychiatrist & Islamic scholar, UK. Alif Institute instructor.

• Dr Daniel Jackson, consultant psychiatrist & Islamic scholar. Alif institute Instructor.

• Fatima Tazveer-Jan (Qualified counsellor and graduate of the Licensed Islamic Professional Counsellor certification programme)

The National Muslim Mental Health Awards is about celebrating, promoting good practices, and providing a space for Muslim mental health practitioners to showcase their hard work. Our aim is to support mental health by recognising innovative strategies and initiatives. It is important to celebrate and empower these individuals on their invaluable & instrumental contributions to the population’s health.

This is a completely democratic and public platform. The nominations will be open to the public, and the category winners will be those who receive the majority number of votes.

Aims of the Mental Health Awards:

- To celebrate British Muslim mental health practitioners, by recognising good practices, innovative strategies and initiatives.

- To showcase positive work in the Muslim Mental health sector.

- To support Muslim Mental Health practitioners in their professional endeavours.

- To work in-partnership with various organisations and community projects to improve their services and provisions .
