Event description

Description

An interactive, out of this world lecture,

Can we assume that our descendants will join a galaxy-wide, multiple world society similar to that shown throughout the “Star Wars” franchise? Will we become a space travelling society, and can generations to come look forward to sharing a beer with extraterrestrials in another world cantina? Or does Star Wars completely miss the mark from a scientific viewpoint? In this interactive lecture, the School of Physics and Astronomy will separate the science from the fiction.

To make the lecture even more fun, we're inviting you to come to the lecture dressed as your favourite character from the Star Wars Universe. You could win yourself £30 of Amazon vouchers and some other goodies if the judges think that the best costume. Home made costumes are encouraged! f you don't want to dress up, but you just want some fun, debunking science, then that's absolutely fine. The best costume prize will be awarded directly after the lecture.

Come and hear about the light (matter) and dark (antimatter) side of the' Force', and also "Wow" us with your innovative costumes! Doors open for photographs at 6.30pm. Lecture starts at 7pm.

Please note that this event is for Cardiff University students and staff only.

This lecture is part of week-long Student Innovation Festival - a celebration of the innovative and creative work taking place across the University, and has been co-produced and curated by a team of students working with our Schools and staff. Gwyddoniaeth Star Wars

Darlith rhyngweithiol, allan o'r byd hwn

Allwn dybio y bydd ein disgynyddion yn ymuno â chymdeithas aml-fydol, alaeth-eang debyg i’r hyn a ddangoswyd drwy gydol y ffilmiau ‘Star Wars’? Fyddwn yn dyfod yn gymdeithas sy’n teithio’r gofod; all y cenedlaethau a ddêl edrych ymlaen at rannu cwrw ag arallfydolion mewn ffreutur ar blaned bell? Neu yw Star Wars yn methu’r nod yn gyfan gwbl o safbwynt gwyddonol? Yn y ddarlith ryngweithiol hon, bydd Yr Ysgol Ffiseg a Seryddiaeth yn didoli’r gwir gwyddonol a’r gau.

Er mwyn gwneud y ddarlith hyd yn oed yn fwy hwyl, rydym yn eich gwahodd i ddod i'r ddarlith wedi'i gwisgo fel eich hoff gymeriad o fasnachfraint Star Wars. Gallech ennill £30 o dalebau Amazon, a phethau eraill yn ogystal, os yw’r beirniaid yn credu eich bod wedi creu’ch gwisg yn y ffordd fwyaf arloesol (eithr adnabyddadwy). Anogir gwisgoedd wedi'un gwneud gyda llaw! Os nad ydych chi eisiau gwisgo i fyny, ond rydych chi eisiau rhywfaint o hwyl, gan amlygu gwyddoniaeth, yna mae hynny'n gwbl iawn.

Dewch i glywed am ochr (mater) golau a (gwrth-fater) tywyll y ‘Force’ a hefyd ein synnu gyda’ch gwisgoedd arloesol!

Mae'r ddarlith hon yn rhan o Ŵyl Arloesedd Myfyrwyr sy'n para wythnos, ac yn dathlu gwaith arloesol a chreadigol a wneir ar draws y Brifysgol, ac mae wedi'i gyd-gynhyrchu a'i guradu gan dîm o fyfyrwyr sy'n gweithio gyda'n Hysgolion a'n staff. Darllenwch am y digwyddiadau eraill a gynhelir ar draws y campws yn ystod wythnos yr ŵyl.
