Event description

Description

As Mountain Biking and the discipline of XC develops, so too have the athletes and their training. Athletes are faster and stronger than ever before, and this is clearly evident in the elite races of today. As coaches who develop athletes, parents who support athletes and riders who aspire to improve their performance, we can benefit from the knowledge that elite sport can give us.

The purpose of the session is to interrogate XC racing, focusing on the key physical attributes required to be a fast XC racer. Knowing what’s important is interesting, but knowing how to train these attributes is vital. This is where this session will focus the majority of its content, providing evidence-based, practical content to take away, to help further improve the quality of XC MTB across the UK.

The 'Science' of Mountain Bike XC Racing is a workshop organised by Scottish Cycling and delivered by the Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS). The SIS provides high-performance expertise to sports and athletes throughout Scotland and the UK.

The workshop will be delivered by Dr Len Parker Simpson and Kurt Rumley who are Performance Physiologists with the institute.
