Event description

Description

Guy Peploe, grandson of Samuel Peploe will discuss the Colourist and Modernism and he will also share insight of the private and public personalities of the artists.

Guy Peploe, managing director of The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, is the acknowledged expert on his grandfather's work. He has written and lectured extensively on SJ Peploe and has published articles on F.C.B. Cadell and Scottish art in general. He regularly contributes to television and radio.

After the talk you can view the Colourists works on display in the gallery.

The Scottish Colourists are among Scotland’s most cherished artists. The group of four Scottish artists; Francis Cadell, Leslie Hunter, Samuel Peploe and J.D. Fergusson, were among the first to introduce the intense colour of the French fauve movement into Britain in the 1920s.

All of the artists were influenced by French painters including Manet and the later Impressionists, Cezanne, Matisse and the Fauves. All of these influences subtly shaped their output; but they also drew heavily on their Scottish artistic heritage.
