Scottish Engineering Leaders Award Grading Days 2018

You are cordially invited to join us at Fife College on the 25 April 2018

In this, the Year of Engineering, Year of Young People and RAF 100, we are expecting even more than the 12,500 Scottish Engineering Leaders Award entries than last year!!

As the ideas and thoughts of children between the ages of 4 to 18 are inspirational, thoughtful, insightful and frequently hilarious we are inviting YOU the engineering community to help us grade this year’s entries. As a small incentive, limited edition badges will be offered to those who help, and certificates provided to recognise your contribution.

Scottish pupils are invited to interview an engineer, look for a problem and draw a solution to it. Entries include letters explaining why their solution should be built and accommodatingly the University of Strathclyde choose one to build each year!

The programme has always been about engineers inspiring children but anyone who had been involved with the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award will tell you – children are also inspiring engineers.

That engineers read the entries is hugely inspirational to those taking part, these events will help demonstrate just how much engineers care about the engagement of young people with engineering.

We are offering three dates and venues where engineers can join us to read entries and give them a grade. If you have an hour or a day we would sincerely appreciate your time. If you can attend for longer than 1 hour please just select the time you will arrive when you register.

Please feel free to share with engineering colleagues - we are looking to inspire you and give you a few stories you can ‘dine out on’ along the way!

Primary Engineer & Secondary Engineer Leaders Awards

For the sixth year in succession we challenged Primary and Secondary school pupils across the UK to change the world!

Pupils were asked to research engineering and interview a practicing engineer to inspire them in answering the question:

"If you were an Engineer, what would you do?"

Pupils then identified an issue and invented an engineered solution to that problem. Pupils of 3 or over were asked to illustrate their solution, accompanied by a letter to explain their invention and why it should be built by engineers.

The Leaders Awards are STEM programmes designed to encourage children, from as young as 3 up to 19, to engage with engineers who convey the importance and the ubiquity of engineering in everybody’s lives – from the houses they live in to the technology and tools they use, from the multiple transport system they travel in and the very food they eat.

Schools develop relationships with industry, both local and worldwide, which give pupils a unique perspective of professions and their significance in the wider world.

The Leaders Awards are a part of Primary Engineer Programmes:
