It’s no secret that the demands on the NHS are constantly evolving, there were 41,500 patients admitted to hospital every day in England in 2015, according to the Health & Social Care Information Centre, up nearly 13% in five years. Life expectancy is increasing and an ageing population puts greater pressure on our NHS. Resources are stretched and, while the battle to increase NHS funding is fought in Westminster and Whitehall, those who manage hospitals across the UK are looking for new ways of increasing efficiency, reducing running costs and improving care for patients. Innovation and technology is the key, to unlocking world class hospitals. The Department of Health has commissioned the NHS to find £22 billion in efficiency savings, as outlined in the Five Year Forward View. This means Hospitals have to rise to the new challenges that we face, in order to create a stronger more sustainable NHS.
