About this event

We don't judge a book by it's cover! We do bring a book we're ready to pass on, enjoy good book chat & pick up a new book to take home.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀

1. Choose a book you've read, enjoyed and are ready to pass on;

2. Wrap it up (keep it simple or go fancy, it's up to you) - you may want to write a note with your wrapped book that shares a few enticing tidbits about its content. Your notes could be things like "you'll enjoy this if you like xxx" or "this will make you laugh out loud".

3. On the night we'll each introduce our book to the group - Just don't share the author or title and at the end we'll get a chance to each pick a book before we all unwrap them together and discover our new book!

𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲...We'll also have a local guest join us who will share a reading with us as well as a few other book related activities that let us celebrate our love of reading. Previous guests have included authors, poets, storytellers, playwrights and illustrators, each sharing their own stories with us.

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking and is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the Craws Nest Collective has parking right outside the front door and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

Will there be refreshments

Yes, there will be tea, coffee and a few sweet treats - just what you need for an evening of good book chat!

Does it matter what genre my book is?

Not at all. We've had all sorts of different genres from poetry, fantasy, comedy, thrillers, historical crime and other non-fiction.

What is no-one wants my book or I don't like the book I pick?

Honestly, that might happen - both have happened to me and I'm the host! It's absolutely fine, I remind everyone we are here to try new things out and even if it doesn't become a new favourite, that's okay. We don't judge a book by its cover and we don't judge each other by our book taste.

Will there always be a guest author?

I hope so! I'm certainly going to be aiming for that and if you know someone that might fit the bill, let me know!

Welcome to the Secret Book Swap!

The perfect evening for book lovers who want to talk about their joy of reading, share their favourite books with others and pick up new reads.

Our hosts tailor their evenings so that they share what they are most passionate about when it comes to books but which ever of our groups you join you'll enjoy warm welcome, friendly hosts, fun, the chance to hear about books and authors you might not have heard about before and the opportunity to tell others all about the books you've been enjoying.

We also invite local authors to join us and share with us their stories and a reading from one of their books - this has become one of our favourite parts of our evenings.
