Event description

Description

Explore The Secret Life of Tartan with fashion designer and tailor Vixy Rae. In her new book, Rae goes behind the scenes and beyond the kilt, to stitch together never-before-heard stories and fascinating anecdotes about Scotland’s most famous fabric.

From the shortbread tin to the catwalk, regal palaces to highland bothies, ‘The Secret Life of Tartan: How a Cloth Shaped a Nation’ showcases tartan’s dramatic diversity and outstanding heritage. This special evening, in the company of experts, is an opportunity to explore how tartan transcends boundaries through colour and craft, texture and cloth. Rae also addresses the key issue of sustainability, from the handing down of kilts to the lost art of vegetable-dyeing yarn.
