Event description

Description

Where do Testers fit in this fast paced Agile delivery cycle to continue delivering value?

The short answer is "continuously"

When an organisation shifts towards agile/lean, delivery cycles shorten and testers are often left wondering where they fit. Ambitions of automated testing and light documentation take away things testers often hold dear.

In an agile environment testers need to be more salmon – just without the death! Testers need to get further upstream, they need to continue their testing throughout the development lifecycle and stop waiting for the mythical test phase.

When testers get involved earlier:

  • the team understands if they are building the right thing sooner
  • potential constraints are discovered sooner - before too much code is written!
  • other testing in the team becomes more visible (e.g. programmers unit tests)
  • the testing bottleneck is reduced
  • team members build great comradery

And everyone gets to understand what great testing looks like (and understand why it may take longer than an automated check)

In this class, we’ll discuss & experiment, we will see how testing fits in with the big ideas behind Agile & Lean, we will recognise how collaboration helps drive out ambiguity in requirements, and ultimately appreciate how continuous testing helps deliver working software more frequently & supports responding to customer demand.

Key Takeaways

  • Why testers should be involved earlier in the development lifecycle
  • Understand what is being built & why - building context
  • How Agile & Waterfall address the same testing in different ways
  • How software development is so much more than lean manufacturing, but how underlying lean principles help smooth workflow
  • How Testers can enable others to do testing
  • That developers are not the only fruit, you don’t need to write code to add value in an Agile team

Intended Audience

  • Testers new to Agile development
  • Testers looking to move into an Agiler team
  • Non-testers lookign to understand how continuous testing adds value in the Agile development lifecycle

Whether you're in an Agile environment or not, don't get left behind. Come & find out how you can be the glue that helps hold the project together

FAQs

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No need - if I can see it on a screen I'll be happy

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

No worries - I'm not sure how many people will want to blag their way onto this course, and if they went to that trouble, I'd probbaly let them come & play anyway!
