Welcome to the Serial Skiller Exhibition

As a child, I grew up learning and practising a wide range of creative skills, including dancing, crocheting, drawing, and painting. I was often described as “multitalented.” But as I stepped into the professional art world, I found that being a multidisciplinary artist, someone who thrives across various creative forms, can be isolating in an industry that so often rewards specialisation. While many contemporary artists have pushed back against this expectation, multidisciplinary practices are still underrepresented in mainstream exhibitions and curatorial spaces.

The Serial Skiller Project is a response to that. It is not just an exhibition, it is a creative experience and a bold statement. Through five essential themes including storytelling, collaboration, skill acquisition, curation, and creative practice, this project aims to celebrate and legitimise the value of multidisciplinary art. It will showcase diverse artistic disciplines and invite the public to engage with the creative process, challenging the idea that artists must "niche down" to be successful. I like to define the Serial Skiller as “The limitless creative whose story links to multiple disciplines and experiences and one who just want to create to show it all”.

About the Exhibition: The Serial Skiller Experience

The Serial Skiller Exhibition will take place at Kingsgate, 161A Clarence Street, Kingston, and promises to be a vibrant, immersive celebration of multidisciplinary creativity. This one-of-a-kind exhibition will be curated to bring together a wide range of artistic expressions under one roof.

Visitors will journey through an experience that includes:

  • Original music composed specifically for the project
  • Dance performance in film that embodies the exhibition theme of Creative practice & Storytelling
  • Sculptures crafted from wood, showcasing raw, tactile creativity
  • Fashion pieces, uniquely designed wearable art
  • Paintings, drawings, and digital artworksthat span emotion and concept
  • Interactive games, available to play on-site, encouraging engagement and fun
  • Documentary films, exploring the making of the project and its deeper message
  • Photography capturing behind-the-scenes moments, expressions, and artistry

Each of these disciplines is rooted in the creative direction of Jarticul, the multidisciplinary persona of artist Joanna Ejiro Ugboboghene. While the bulk of the work will be original, the project will also feature a selection of collaborative pieces with other talented creatives, embodying the project’s core values of Collaboration and creative freedom. I have also amazing team members who have been and will be working close to support the project's success.
