In an age of rampant misinformation and constant attention-grabbing tactics, how can your practice incorporate the tools thoughtful self-publishing provides?
This workshop is for people who have a self-publishing project in mind.
Publishing is one of the quickest and most efficient ways to disseminate information. We will explore the radical possibilities that publishing as a practice offers, discussing a wide range of sheetzines, flyers and pamphlets to build an overview of what publishing looks like in Glasgow. We will touch on the artist books movement of the 70’s as an interesting example of artistic/political refusal, building an understanding of how artists working in this medium were able to reinvigorate the book as a material living thing.
Using this as our jumping off point, we will explore this in relation to our own work. Thinking about your own publishing project idea, we will discuss the publishing practicalities of the project and ground it in Glasgow's community.
Participants should attend the event with a project in mind that they feel comfortable discussing with the group.

There will be 10 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks. During this event, attendees will participate in: Talk / Lecture, group discussions, reading, writing, sharing work that has been created, visual presentation
This event will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street. For information about venue accessibility at the CCA please visit their website.
CCA’s primary lift is currently out of order. We will be directing people to the secondary lift which will be operated by festival staff. If you need to use the lift during your time at the festival please come and speak to a member of Glasgow Zine Fest staff and we’ll be happy to help.
