Event description
1940s themed 'Shindig' at the Shelter - an evening of music & dancing with vintage themed bar and entertainment

About this Event

Take Shelter invite you to step back in time at the first ever 'Shelter Shindig', and discover that the 1940s are alive and well in Brighton!

Everyone is welcome for a night which will get your toes tapping and your fingers clicking to a soundtrack of wartime tunes provided by the ever dapper 'DJ Jivin’ Jim Dandy.' His extensive collection of vinyl is guaranteed to get your jive hopping and your lindy swinging out.

The evening will be feature entertainment from singing sensations 'Rogers & Redmond' who will be thrilling us with their sweet harmonies. Sit back and soak up the wartime atmosphere with local beer, our very own selection of black-market inspired cocktails and snacks straight out of your ration book.

Want to dance but not sure of your steps? Come a bit earlier and join Jim and partner Peggy Sue for a free dance lesson and then perfect your moves as the night goes on.

All proceeds from the night will go towards Take Shelter’s fundraising campaign to create a new accessible entrance to the only publicly open school air raid shelter in the south east, here at Downs Junior School in Brighton.

The Take Shelter team are running tours of the shelter as part of Brighton Fringe Festival – a must for anyone interested in the hidden history of the city. To book your tickets see our fringe listing: https://www.brightonfringe.org/whats-on/take-shelter-118058/
