About this event

Humour is a serious business! No, really it is… especially in the therapy room. How do we know when it’s ok to laugh with our clients, and when we should be wary of doing so? How can we be more confident in understanding what our clients really mean when they make a joke? These questions and more are explored in this interesting, humorous and educational workshop led by Psychotherapist and Comedian Bruce Edhouse.

This stimulating workshop is designed to inspire us to think about our own responses and attitude to humour, and to feel more comfortable with the mindful use of humour in therapy to support clients to venture further in their therapeutic pursuits. We will look at various aspects such as how humour interacts with self esteem, how it can be an effective or disruptive defence mechanism, and even how we can mindfully work with it in anger management.

Bruce Edhouse is a BACP registered Integrative Psychotherapist and Comedian from Leicester. Bruce has performed standup comedy for over a decade including several years filling the room to capacity at the Leicester Comedy Festival. Bruce now combines his two passions and has developed a unique comic angle bringing psychotherapeutic exercises together with comedy for audiences on stage. Bruce likes to take therapy to the world of comedy and the appropriate use of comedy to the world of therapy! As such, he has developed this workshop to share his insights into how humour can work in the therapy room with fellow therapists.
