The Smuggler's Trail: Geology of the Thanet Coast
Explore the chalk coastline & evidence of life from 85 million years ago on a walk & talk led by Richard Hubbard in Kingsgate, Broadstairs.
About this event
A great opportunity to take a step back in time as we go back to explore the evidence of life in the oceans from over 80 million years ago, and the way our coastline reveals the past from what we see today.
This walk & talk is led by geology expert Richard Hubbard and explores the geology and secrets of the Kingsgate coastline, Broadstairs. Thanet's chalk cliffs and chalk reef contain hidden secrets and evidence of the changes in the world over millions of years. The chalk cliffs and reef are part of the Thanet Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest, and are part of the North East Kent Marine Protected Area.
This walk and talk is the 'highlights' tour of Richard's new book and will involve a walk along the beach taking a closer look at the chalk coastline. These walks are suitable for adults (& over 11 years of age) and will last up to 2 hours.
You will require sturdy footwear (walking shoes or boots) for walking on the beach and rocky chalk shore (MEDIUM uneven terrain for walking). Please wear clothing to suit the coastal weather condition on the day (raincoat/windproof - for rain/wind; layers to keep warm, if it is cold; or suntan lotion/hat/cover up to avoid sunburn, if sunny!) Please also be aware & abide by the latest coronavirus information and public health advice.
Online bookings only as numbers will be limited - with a suggested donation of £4pp.
PLEASE NOTE: Each booking number is for ONE PERSON ONLY - Sorry, that you will need to repeat with a new booking for a second, or more people!
