The Clubs of Pall Mall and St James’s are some of the glories of London, though open only to Club members and their guests. The Oxford and Cambridge Club is no exception, and so we are particularly pleased that at the end of our year we can again invite our Society members to a special evening hosted by Club member and Society Chairman David Peace. For the evening of Monday 12 December, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, we have the magnificent chandeliered Smoking Room (and no, you can’t!) and the format is, well, just meet, drink, chat, and end the Society’s year on a really happy note. What the Club elegantly terms “Gourmet Nibbles” will be yours, together with a voucher for the first drink of your choice (wine, beer, soft) followed by a cash bar. We have found from previous events that this is the best way to keep our ticket prices manageable for all, while allowing each of us to imbibe what and how much we need. We will be celebrating, meeting and making friends, and generally moving in a jolly way towards the end of the year with Society members of all ages and backgrounds who have two (at least) things in common: London living or working, and Cambridge University. What better way to bring people together!
Tours: This year Club staff have very kindly agreed to take groups of our members and their friends around the premises, which will include as far as possible the Libraries, the Terrace, the Coffee Room, the Morning Room, the Gallery Bar, the Blomfield Room, the Princess Marie-Louise Room, the Drawing Room, the Edward VII and Marlborough private dining rooms, the sports facilities and so on. These tours will be done on an informal basis when announced in the first half of the evening, the last tour being around 8.30pm.
Dress Code and Standards: The Club, like the others in St James’s, maintains the standards that its members approve, and so our Chairman will have his wrist slapped if the Club has to turn away men without jacket and tie, or anyone in jeans, flip flops (in December?!) or similar garb. Bags and luggage must be left at Reception and phones turned off. In this way the Clubs retain their unique charm, and this is something to be experienced.
If you haven’t been there before, join us for this very special evening! And if you have, come and enjoy it all again! Each Cambridge Society of London member attending may invite up to three named guests (NB the names will be left at Reception so do make sure they are accurate). We encourage you to invite your Cambridge alumni friends and contacts. One of your guests may be non-Cantab.
If you are not a member of the Society and you studied at Cambridge do learn more about the Society and join via our website: www.camsoclon.org. Then, come straight back here to secure your member's ticket for the Pall Mall Party!
Early booking is recommended. We look forward to welcoming you!
