Event description
The Soldier’s Return is a brand new opera for Sunderland

About this Event

Considering recent Government advice to minimise the spread of COVID-19, Opera Sunderland will be postponing all planned rehearsals and performances of A Soldier’s Return.

The health and safety of our team and community performers is our priority.

We will be working behind the scenes to re-schedule the show, and now are considering the first week of November, with rehearsals starting in September. This is of course dependent on how events unfold in the coming weeks and months.

We will release news as we have it.

Created by award winning artists Jacob Polley (poet) & Marcos Fernandez (composer).

The Soldier’s Return is a brand new opera based on interviews with present day Wearside veterans. Reflecting the soldiers’ own words and experiences, this moving and thought-provoking performance will feature singers from Sunderland alongside a professional cast and musicians.

At the core of this project is our community engagement programme, which offers opportunities to those new to singing to give it a try, and welcomes current singers – especially those who would like to try something new. We will build a community opera chorus from scratch to bring this new work to life.

These performances are accessible, as there is a lift to the theatre space. If you are a wheelchair user please let us know so we can reserve a space for you.

Tickets for our shows are available through Sunderland Culture https://sunderlandculture.org.uk/
