Background

Residents in Ilkley have been working together to secure a clean river, one fit to swim, paddle and play in, and one where the water quality supports its living inhabitants.

The group trying to protect our river has, working with the Town Council, made some progress in securing some ugrades to the local sewage plant in 2018 but we need a more substative and sustainable response, one where we can be sure as a growing town we have a sewage system that works.

There is definitely more that the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water can do, but we can also do our part as a community.

You will have seen in the local press and social media how concerned Ilkley and Burley residents are about the impact of contaminated water on our wildlife and people and animals swimming in the river. This meeting is a chance to find out more about the issues and also see what we can do as a community to prevent it and to ensure our representative bodies are playing thier part on our behalf.

You can find out more about the campaign, our work and the last Town Meeting here
