Event description

Description

What's the Solution to Internet Privacy & Security in today's data-driven age? This is an important question for every sector.

If you hold a dataset of sensitive, private information (for example, medical records, movie viewing, or email usage), providing aggregate statistical information about the data may reveal some information about the individuals.

CognitionX present a private talk by Prof Jon Crowcroft (Alan Turing Institute Research Fellow, Marconi Professor at Cambridge & major contributor to the modern internet) with a Panel discussion afterwards including the Head of Policy at Privitar and the Head of AI at Babylon Health.

Jon will be asking "What's the Solution to Internet Privacy & Security in today's data-driven age?" and will share the research into this area.

We’ll be at the top floor of Olswang’s office in Holborn from 6.30pm on Weds 7th Dec.

Olswang always provide top notch food and drink and there will be lots of interesting people to meet from startups, SMEs and enterprise businesses - all working in AI and with an interest in security & privacy.

The Topics:

- How to maintain accuracy of results in an analytics platform whilst maintaining the anonymity of the individuals.

- How data sources, although benign in isolation can be combined to allow identification of individuals.

- How enclaves can improve differential privacy and can allow for complex analysis to be run on sensitive data in a secure manner.

Jon graduated in Physics from Trinity College, University of Cambridge in 1979, gained an MSc in Computing in 1981 and PhD in 1993, both from UCL. He is a Fellow at the Royal Society, a Fellow of the ACM, a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Fellow of the IET and the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the IEEE and Faculty Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute.

Privitar's Head of Policy, Guy Cohen, in addition to his role at Privitar, is a fellow at the University of Cambridge, Centre for Science and Policy, where he is looking at privacy related policy issues. Before joining Privitar, Guy worked in various roles in the Civil Service; in Cabinet Office, the Department of Health and HMRC. Guy is a regular speaker on the topic of privacy and the GDPR.

Babylon Health's Head of AI, Steven Hamblin has built a team of data scientists driving the development of statistical and machine learning models that advance their mission of providing healthcare to as many people as possible. The management of patient data is a delicate issue and Steven will be discussing his current obstacles.
