We tend not to think of sounds as a part of our cultural history, but many everyday sounds have been consigned to history never to be heard again. Seeking to recreate a more three-dimensional version of history, ‘The Soundscapes of the York Mystery Plays’ invites participants to immerse themselves in medieval York. Through the installation, which combines archival sound recordings on oral history and newly recorded material, attendees can listen to recreated 16th-century soundscapes and their modern counterparts. The opening of the installation on Friday 18 November includes a talk by Dr Mariana Lopez on the project. Booking is required for the talk only. Visit beinghumanfestival.org for event times.
