Event description

Description

We are so privileged to be hosting the Book Launch for The Spice Boys in our Business Lounge on the 24th August and we are sending out an open invite to what promises to be a truly great event with Manchester at its heart!

The Spice Boys is the tale of four young men from Manchester who are homeless and addicted to the legal high ‘spice' which has plagued the city.
The novel shows the harsh reality of the hardships, politics and truths of modern day homelessness and how society manages those young people who have been through the care system, prison system and are homeless.
The story revolves around Ricky, Mo, George and Vinnie and takes the reader on a twelve-month journey with these individuals from drugs, the care system, prison and life on the streets.
Peter Morgan's gritty and distinctly Mancunian novel is an astoundingly relevant and detailed depiction of the realities for those addicted to this horrific drug.

The Book Launch will feature a presentation from Dr. Oliver Sutcliffethe, chemist at the MMU who pioneered the first study on Spice on behalf of MCC, and Dr Rob Ralphs, senior criminologist at the MMU. They will deliver a 15 minute presentation on what Spice actually is from a scientific view, how it has effected the homeless community and prisoners and what the effects have been since the NPS act has come in.

Following this Peter Morgan himself will read a 5 minute exerpt from his book followed by a Q&A section and an opportunity for all guests to have their books signed.
