Event Details

Friday 4 March & Saturday 5 March 2016

Executive Business Centre, 89 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8EB

Sport, as a cultural form par excellence, is inherently political, having what can be described as an ambiguous relationship with the notion of social justice. The Sport, Politics and Social Justice Conference 2016 will provide a wide-ranging and interdisciplinary examination of the implicit and explicit relational intersections between these elements as part of an exploration of the role and meaning of sport - from virtuous justice provider to insidious promoter of disciplining power, and more. The conference aims to explore the inter-relationship between sport, politics and social justice by drawing on research from a variety of academic fields, including: politics, political science, sociology, social policy, political philosophy, criminology, community and youth work, history, law, geography, and sport studies.
