Event description

Description

We have a packed and varied programme for the year's event, starting off with the most up to date economic outlook from one of the UK’s leading financial and economic experts, Philip Bartlett, Economist at RBS Group. We'll find out what’s happening in the UK and global economy right now and what’s likely to happen in the future that will impact our tourism industry in our 'What Lies Ahead?' session.

Stephen Leckie in his capacity as Chair of the Tourism Leadership Group will then provide an update on our national Tourism Strategy TS2020 with one year left to go, reflecting on our success and challenges in the 'TS2020 - One More Year to Go' session before we view a specially recorded interview with Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs - Fiona Hyslop MSP, Malcolm Roughead - Chief Executive of VisitScotland and Marc Crothall - Chief Executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance on the vision for the future beyond 2020.

Delegates will then be introduced to the draft strategy 'A Shared Vision for Scottish Tourism Beyond 2020' by Marc Crothall before moving into a facilitated round table discussion session where you will have the opportunity to contribute your thoughts and feedback on the new strategy.

Our 'What's Cooking?' session, an interview with 14-year-old Jessica Mitchell, winner of Springboard's Future Chef 2019 will set the tone for our lunch break where you'll have the opportunity to meet, mingle and lunch with colleagues and contacts and take a walk around the exhibition.

Our afternoon session will kick off with our 'Growing Your Business Through Data' session, giving you a new insight into how you can improve the way you understand and connect with your customers to enable you to grow your business and deliver an experience that exceeds expectations.

Sustainability has risen to become the No 1 issue for the global tourism industry and in the 'Future-Proofing Our Place' session where Alison McRae, Senior Director Glasgow Chamber of Commerce will share the latest insights, inspiration and best practice drawn from Circular Glasgow and partners around the world

Tourism is of course all about people and in our ‘A Human Future: Success Through Our People’ session you’ll hear four different perspectives on how we can build a stronger industry for the future through our people.

As we move towards the end of the day, we'll explore the issue of mental health within Scotland's tourism industry in the 'Looking After Our People' session with Gary Macdonald, Health & Wellbeing Lead (DWP). Delegates will find out more about what can we do to ensure we are looking after ourselves and each other and make our industry a healthier and happier place to work.

Our final session of the day, 'Being Brave' will inspire you to step outside your comfort zone, do things differently, take measured risks and knock down barriers to achieve your ambitions, as we hear four very different stories from industry entrepreneurs.

We’ll also be inviting delegates to stay with us after the conference for networking and G & Tea experience (sampling our very own STA gin!).

This is a do not miss event for all tourism business owners, senior managers and suppliers to Scotland's tourism industry and traditionally sells out well in advance of the event date.
