Description

The STEMM Cell @ Exeter Science Park - Inspiring Growth

Discover the building blocks for success with fortnightly presentations from leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and academics at our centre of excellence for science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM).

27th September: Solving the world energy crisis with quantum mechanics

Dr Steven Hepplestone is a lecturer in the theory of quantum mechanics at the University of Exeter, where he completed his degree and PhD in heat flow and thermoelectrics in nanotechnology.

He has dedicated his life to the study and application of quantum mechanics to real world problems.

Dr Hepplestone will be discussing how quantum mechanics can contribute to solving the world’s energy crisis, whereby humans are fast using up the world’s fossil fuels, in its application to energy storage and conversion solutions.

His fascination with quantum physics took hold when he was an inquisitive child who wanted to know how things (everything) worked and grew when he heard about the concept of wave-particle duality as a teenager.
