About this event

How do we come to overvalue the trivial and overlook what truly matters? This online workshop offers a reflective, discussion-based exploration of how Stoic philosophy can help us correct distorted ideas of value. We’ll examine our relationship to time, attention, self-image, and the way we judge others — all through a practical lens. Participants will be encouraged not only to understand key Stoic ideas, but to begin applying them to daily life in pursuit of clarity and flourishing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any prior knowledge of Stoicism or philosophy to join?

No prior experience is required. This course is designed to be accessible and welcoming to thoughtful adult learners from all backgrounds. Whether you're new to Stoicism or have been reading it for years, you'll find ideas to engage with and practical tools to apply.

Will the course be theoretical or practical?

Both. While we’ll explore key Stoic ideas with philosophical care, the emphasis is on how to live them. Through Socratic dialogue, reflective writing, and guided meditation, you’ll be encouraged to connect the material to your own life and cultivate inner clarity and moderation.

Is this course interactive? Will I have to speak?

The course is discussion-based and interactive, but participation is always invitational — never pressured. You’re welcome to join conversations, or to listen quietly and reflect. Small-group discussions will be offered, but you can opt out at any time.

Will the session be recorded?

To encourage honest, open dialogue, this session will not be recorded. This helps ensure a safe and present atmosphere for all participants.

Is this a religious or spiritual course?

No. Stoicism is a philosophical tradition, not a religion, and the course is grounded in reflective inquiry rather than dogma. That said, some may find spiritual resonance in its teachings — especially around detachment, peace, and purpose.

Will I receive any materials after the course?

Yes. After the session, you'll receive a handout with key quotations, journaling prompts, and further reading suggestions to help you continue exploring the ideas in your own time.

Can I attend if I live outside the UK?

Absolutely. This is an online course open to participants from anywhere in the world. Just be sure to check the time zone (all times are listed in UK time).
