The Story 2013
Friday, February 22, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (GMT)
London, United Kingdom
We are now four! The Story is returning to The Conway Hall, London, on Friday, February 17th, 2011 for its fourth year of inspiring talks and interesting stuff. Last year we had custom-made chocolate bars, music made out of pigs, sock-puppet mysteries and artworks made from thousands of coins. We've searched long and hard to come up with a new selection of speakers who will be just as fantastic for 2013.
The Story 2013 will again be a celebration of everything that is wonderful, inspiring and awesome about stories, in whatever medium possible. We’ll have stories that are written, spoken, played, described, enacted, whispered, projected, orchestrated, performed, printed – whatever form stories come in, we hope to have them here.
As a special offer for all attendees, we're offering a pre-launch discount on Vacuum Days, the first publication from Storythings, produced by renowned UK artist and speaker at The Story, Tim Etchells (http://www.timetchells.com/).
Vacuum Days was a year-long online text-based project which ran live from 1 January til 31 December 2011. Comprising a series of one-per-day posters reminiscent of live show lineup announcements, Vacuum Days proposed a rolling daily programme of imaginary events that responded to, reworked and distorted real-life events. Inhabiting and extending the zone of sensationalist media, news as pornography, hyped up current affairs, Internet spam, twitter-gossip and tabloid headlines, the project mixed reality, political and theatrical spectacle and in a stark combination of overzealous capitals and small-print conjured a set of unlikely, absurd and uncomfortable performances, lectures, contests, fights, film screenings and other kinds of public display.
As a comical and bitterly mischievous parody of sometimes shocking news events, Vacuum Days is only suitable for mature readers, and should not be purchased by the easily-offended.
Vacuum Days will be published on Nov 5th 2013 - orders taken with The Story tickets can either be picked up at The Story (free P&P!) or can be shipped upon publication in November - please choose the option you require when buying.
NB - Every ticket sold will contribute £5 to the fantastic Ministry of Stories, which runs writing and reading workshops with young people in East London. yay!
