Event description

Description

This summer marks the 700th anniversary of the Consecration of St Andrews Cathedral in Fife. Join us on Saturday 30 June at 2pm for a costumed celebration of the history of what was once Scotland's most important religious site. Discover the story of St Andrews Cathedral from its origins in the Early Middle Ages through to the stirring events of the Reformation - a narrative of hope, faith, murder and conflict.

Costumed characters will tell their tales in the historic surroundings of the Cathedral, unless the weather is severe in which case we will relocate to All Saints Church, North Castle Street, St Andrews. All ages are welcome.

Seating is not provided so attendees are advised to bring rugs and / or cushions (but not chairs). There is also very limited access to toilet facilities at the Cathedral.

If you have concerns about mobility or access please do feel free to contact the organisers in advance at Cathedral700@gmail.com .

We are grateful to the University of St Andrews, the Kate Kennedy Trust, and Historic Environment Scotland for their support.

To mark the anniversary, HES have waived admission fees to the Cathedral grounds for those attending the celebration. Tickets for admission to the Cathedral Museum and St Rules Tower can be purchased from the visitor centre or online via HES's website: https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/st-andrews-cathedral/prices-and-opening-times/
