Event description

Description

The Strawberry Network project where your school and students will assist in the research of Biomonitoring of outdoor air quality using Strawberry Plants.

The strawberry network intends to focus on outdoor air quality in schools across the region by using strawberry plants as biomonitors of atmospheric particles. This project will enable pupils and teachers to engage with researchers and gain experience of what Scientists really do.

Some of the particles present in the atmosphere are trapped by the surfaces of the strawberry plant as the air moves past the plant. The particles that have accumulated on its leaves are used as a sample of the total particles that are present in the atmosphere. Using these plants will enable researchers to monitor air quality.

As the plants themselves will not be damaged, the fruits and plants can be obseved and measured. Come and hear how to take part in a research in school activity and involve your pupils in the world of STEM.
