About this event
Join us for the red-carpet premiere of The Success of Moss Side (an SNE Studios production, directed by Elmi Ali and produced by Baka Bah) – a brand-new documentary told through the eyes of a young filmmaker.
Moss Side, one of Manchester’s most diverse inner-city neighbourhoods, is too often portrayed only through headlines about crime and poverty. While challenges exist, such stories overshadow the vibrant, layered reality loved by its residents.
The Success of Moss Side breaks through this one-sided narrative with intimate community portraits: a football coach nurturing dreams, a mother transforming grief into activism, and a music producer weaving the area’s soul into sound. Together, they reveal a Moss Side that the papers overlook – a place of resilience, creativity and unshakable pride.
SNE Studios is a creative, community-driven organisation with a vision to give people the tools and platform to tell their own stories.
🎬 On the Night:
- Walk the red carpet and strike a pose for photographs
- Tuck into street food from local favourites including First Street Bagels and other vendors
- Enjoy a live DJ set bringing the energy before and after the screening
- Watch the documentary in a stunning setting, followed by a panel discussion with Baka Bah and youth ambassadors
- Celebrate an Awards Ceremony recognising Moss Side’s community leaders
