The Sunday Assembly International Gathering 2018

25-27 May 2018, Edinburgh, Scotland

Sunday Assembly is an international movement of wonder and good, with secular congregations bringing people together around the world to celebrate life, live better, help often and wonder more.

Most of this activity is centred on these congregations and the cities and towns in which they operate. Once a year we like to help as many people as possible from the Sunday Assembly community come together in one place to meet, share, learn, support each other and re-energise for the months ahead.

Thursday 24 May 2018

From 19.00 Social gathering in pub with food and drink available to buy.  Meet in the Wetherspoon's pub: The Booking Office, 17 Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh EH1BQ.

Friday & Saturday, 25 -26  May 2018

Having consulted with the SA Network, the Gathering Team are putting together a fabulous programme of Sunday Assembly workshops that focus on both the practicalities of running a SA and our own self-development as Leaders. In our organisational roles, it is really important we take time for our personal growth and self-care, as well as that of our community.

We are offering a mix of workshops so that people can tailor the weekend to their personal needs and those of their Sunday Assembly. And of course, there will be singing, dancing and celebrating this one life we know we have!

We do recommend a minimum of 2 people from each Assembly attend The Gathering, so that you can split seminars and workshops between yourselves, being able to return to your Assembly with new found enthusiasm and disseminate information you have gathered together, to your communities. Also, twin rooms are much cheaper in Hotels...

Our days will run from 10am - 6pm starting in Sunday Assembly style with songs and a great live band. Additional activities will start at 9am for those interested in starting the day with a mindfulness practise, or a coffee - or both!

Workshops will include:

I’m With The Band - How to be an effective song leader, music coordinator and band leader, to get the most out of your music at SA.

It’s All About The Money - Fundraising is essential. Let’s talk about how to increase the gifts from our participants, and how we can not only cover our costs, but build for a sustainable future.

Fusion and Inclusion- Do you consider your Assembly diverse? Is it really something we need to think about? How active are we in our anti-racism? Let’s ask some difficult questions about activism, openness and just how welcome non-white, non cis-gendered and people with additional needs feel about attending our events.

Policy and People - Mark McKergow will lead this session on our new policies and how we can work with them to make our Assemblies safe places for everyone - attendees, volunteers and leaders.

Open Space - What is missing from these conversations? Start them up! Your chance to discuss anything that you feel the leaders of Assemblies around the world should be thinking about.

Retreat To The Future - TASTER Join Sanderson Jones with his fantastic life enhancing course. Feel what it is to truly connect with yourself and others and look to what you are wanting from life.

TLC - How do we make sure we avoid “Burnout”? How do we be sure that our volunteers are respected and valued?

Live Better in 8 Weeks - Since launching in 2014 at our London Assembly, Live Better groups have helped countless people reach their goals. We will be sharing our resource packs and helping you create Live Better Groups back where you are.

Impress the Press - Let’s get better at telling the SA story to the Press.  Learn how to sell your local Assembly and up those column inches!

Friday evening: Philosophical Dinner Breakout - We’ll be signing people up to go for dinner with others and providing you with chat cards to inspire conversation as you get to know people from around the SA world.*NB* Price of the dinner is not included.

Saturday evening: Ceilidh and Dinner - A fantastic way to end our Saturday together! Come and dance together a traditional Scottish jig (and learn how to pronounce “Ceilidh”!) and enjoy a meal all together (included). With the fabulous band  Carrie On Dancing - you will be up on your feet in no time. No previous experience necessary!

It’s going to be a fantastic weekend away - do join us. When we spend time in each others company, we recall what all this is for, how hard we are all working to achieve it and that there are people all across the world enabling others to Live Better, Help Often and Wonder More.

Sunday 27 May 2018

Location

The venue for the 2018 Gathering will be the Greyfriars Charteris Centre, a community centre based in a former church on the Pleasance. The Centre features a wonderful main hall where we can host both the Gathering and the Sunday Assembly itself on the Sunday morning. Located on the city’s South Side, the Centre sets below the dramatic Salisbury Crags, is not far from the historic city centre and is well-served by public transport along South Bridge and Clark Street.
