Amnesty International UK and FREE-Syria invite you to:
The Syrian Freedom Charter: What Syrians Want
With guest speaker, Rafif Jouejati - Director, Foundation to Restore Equality and Education in Syria (FREE-Syria).
A reception will follow from 8.30pm.
In March 2011, Syrian people said 'no' to four decades of military dictatorship, oppression, and single-party and single-family rule.
Throughout the peaceful protests and into the militarized conflict, Syrians have stated what they do not want. FREE-Syria, along with more than 100 activists inside Syria and abroad, conducted a survey of more than 50,000 Syrians to determine what Syrians want.
The results may surprise you.
Rafif Jouejati is the founder and Director of FREE-Syria. She is also the English spokeswoman for the Local Coordination Committees (LCC) in Syria, a grassroots network designed to align the activities of pro-democracy Syrians in each of the country’s 14 governorates.
This event sits within Amnesty International UK’s work on ‘Transition’ in Syria where we seek to empower, equip and mobilise Syrian activists to help them develop an independent civil society, take human rights messages out to a wider audience and be better enabled to use non-violent means to defend their own and others rights.
