The Tactile Studio: Colour, Material & Light in Architecture
Overview
An immersive evening, in collaboration with Women in Property, exploring how colour, material and light come together to shape architectural experience - hosted within the beautifully curated Hobson’s Choice Studio
The Tactile Studio event invites architects and designers to rediscover the expressive potential of colour when paired with natural materials such as timber, stone, concrete and steel.
Talk & Live Palette Workshop
The evening opens with a lively discussion featuring Joa Studholme, Colour Curator at Farrow and Ball (The one who comes up with names like Dead Salmon and Elephant’s Breath!), Director & Founder of Hapticity Architects and Chair of RIBA Bath, Helen Carey, and Designer at Hobson’s Choice, Cassie Nelson Hall, exploring how colour interacts with texture, light and scale in architectural design.
Guests will then be invited to create their own tactile palettes using Hobson’s Choice material samples and Farrow & Ball paint colours - discovering how small shifts in tone and texture can completely change the feel of a space.
Colour Surgery
In the second half of the evening, guests will join intimate group sessions led by Joa, Charlotte and Helen. Each group will dive into the nuances of colour and material pairing, mood creation and the relationship between light and form.
Guests will be grouped by colour family for relaxed, interactive discussions that blend creativity with practical insight.
Networking, drinks and canapés will continue naturally throughout this session.
Goody Bags
To close, guests will receive a thoughtfully curated goody bag reflecting the sensory theme of the evening.
Members and non-members of all genders are welcome to attend.
