Come along to Conversation Day in King's Cross on Saturday 8 June to join in and celebrate the start of a worldwide movement.

What is Conversation Day?

Conversation Day started in New York City in 2013 as a celebration of the joys and power of great conversation, sponsored by the non-profit volunteer organisation Conversations of New York (CNY), founded and directed by Ronald Gross, co-chair of the University Seminar on Innovation at Columbia University and author of books including Socrates' Way, The Lifelong Learner and The New Professionals.

It's now growing into a much wider initiative that brings people together to talk face-to-face about topics they care about. Thanks to its free, open and simple nature, Conversation Day is now spreading globally. This year will see events held in the USA, Canada, UK, NZ, Finland, Nigeria, China, Japan, India, Malaysia and even Saudi Arabia.

Why a Conversation Day?

In our increasingly tech-divided and remote world, Conversation Day is rediscovering the value of meeting face-to-face in small groups to discuss exhilarating and important subjects. They convene in coffee shops, bookstores, libraries, churches, community centres, parks... to pose challenging questions and consider different points of view, using a variety of simple but powerful guiding methodologies – or by being boldly spontaneous.

The result is uplifting, inspiring, creative – all from the simple act of connecting with each other through talking and listening.

What’s actually going to happen?

The event will consist of two x one-hour-long conversations in small groups on a selection of topics, moderated by an experienced host.

There will be a short briefing before the conversations start, so everyone knows the guidelines, a break between the two main conversations and a period afterwards when participants can continue to talk over a cup of tea, coffee – or something stronger.

And the hope is that next year Conversation Day will continue to grow and spread, both in the UK and around the world.
