BFI Doc Society, in collaboration with Reclaim the Frame, are pleased to host an in-person roundtable conversation with director Chloe Abrahams to celebrate the theatrical release of her debut feature The Taste of Mango, winner of the Best Documentary Audience Award at BFI London Film Festival 2023, and Best Debut Director at the 2023 BIFAs.

On Tuesday 26 November at 4pm, we invite documentary filmmakers of marginalised genders, interested in personal narratives, in turning the camera on yourself, your family, your friends, and the challenges and possibilities within. BFI Doc Society's Film and Production Executive Hannah Bush Bailey will host the talk with Chloe, and invite questions and input from attendees.

This session will last around one hour and capacity is limited to 10 participants to allow for meaningful conversation between Chloe and attending filmmakers.

The Central London location will be confirmed soon and will be near Bertha DocHouse (Curzon Bloomsbury), where The Taste of Mango will screen at 18:20 followed by a Q&A with Chloe. BFI Doc Society will cover the screening ticket for the 10 filmmakers attending the roundtable.

The Taste of Mango, Chloe Abrahams’ debut feature documentary, is an enveloping, hypnotic, urgently personal meditation on family, memory, identity, violence, and love. At its centre are three extraordinary women: the director’s mother, Rozana; her grandmother, Jean; and the director herself. Their stories, by turns difficult and jubilant, testify to the entangled and ever-changing nature of inheritance and the ways in which we both hurt and protect the ones we love.
