Abstract:

The talk will outline National Grid Electricity Transmission’s view of the factors which are likely to impact on the performance of the current electricity network, and how this could affect the transmission system and its assets. It will highlight the technology and resources necessary for planning and managing the network of the future and the evolution necessary to successfully meet these challenges. Furthermore, it will outline the role that society and stakeholders will play in the quality and security of their energy supply as we transition to a lower carbon future.

Speaker's biography:

Dr. Mark Osborne is a Chartered Engineer and joined National Grid in 1997. He works in in Engineering and Asset Management in Electricity Transmission. Key activities include whole life-cycle design, application and management for new transmission concepts and technologies. He is active in the CIGRE B3 Substations Study Committee as a Strategic Advisory Group member, Special Reporter and UK Regular Member.
