About this event

Following in the tradition of the Philadelphia Association and therapeutic households, Studio Upstairs was developed as an alternative to the psychiatric institutions and drug and alcohol agencies of the time. A creative space where one can give form to human experience with the possibility of exhibiting in the public gallery. This evening will look at how participation and showing in the creative arts generates a sense of being in the world, as compared to the otherness and thirdness in the discourse of the consulting room.Whilst training with the Philadelphia Association in 1988 Douglas Gill co-founded Studio Upstairs, a charity and therapeutic arts studio in London and Bristol. On returning to London in 2010 he continues his interest in the creative arts and psychoanalysis with his teaching on psychotherapy training programmes and public events. He is Co-Coordinator of AGIP Training Committee. Member of the Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. In private practice North London
