Join us for The Things Network's official UK conference: Oct 14-15 2019 in Reading

Now in its second year the conference is a 2-day celebration of the very best innovation, real-life uses and new developments in low powered, long range Internet of Things technology. The Things Network is the UK's largest free to use network for the Internet of Things (IoT) and part of a much larger global network based on LoRaWAN technology. It is estimated that 75% of IoT use cases suit low power networks, and LoRaWAN is the global de-facto standard.

At The Things Conference On Tour, UK you will hear how LoRaWAN in being used, see a huge variety of applications and in the hands-on workshops you can start leveraging this technology for yourself.

This will be 2 days of inspiring and thought provoking talks, hands-on workshops, exhibitions and plenty of space for socializing and sharing tips and stories with your fellow attendees.

When / where is it?

The conference is from 9:30am Monday 14th to 6:00pm Tuesday 15th of October 2019.

The conference is in the centre of Reading, just 3 minutes walk from the train station, with many hotels and accommodation options to suit all budgets. Reading has invested in The Things Network and there is excellent network coverage all over the region.

The venue is in Reading's beautiful Town Hall - we will be using the Concert Hall, Victoria Hall and the Waterhouse Chamber.

Reading is very easy to reach:

By train: Just 25 minutes from London Paddington, with direct trains from Southampton, Bournemouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Penzance, Cardiff, Swansea, Birmingham, Manchester, York.

By air: Nearest are London Heathrow (direct bus), Gatwick (direct train) and Southampton (direct train) - all within an hour. Birmingham and Bristol airports are also within easy reach.

By road: Reading is just off the M4 (J10 from London, J11 from the south, J12 from Bristol) and close to the M40.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

[ TLDR: Conferences are not just for straight able-bodied burger munching white guys - we want to make this conference a safe and comfortable space for everybody ]

Inclusivity: The Things Network is a friendly and welcoming worldwide community, and we want to make the conference open, safe and welcoming to everybody who who is interested in learning about this game changing movement. We love geeky humour and debate, but will not tolerate any harrasment towards conference attendees. Please see our code of conduct for more detail.

Low income: We have tried to make the tickets as affordable as possible, and do not want ticket price to be a barrier. Please get in touch to discuss your situation and we will do our best to help. Volunteer opportunities are alos available.

Children: The conference is not suitable for young children. If you would love to attend but have challenges with childcare then please get in touch - we may be able to help. Secondary school students and older are welcome to attend.

Dietary: Refreshments and lunch are included in the price of the conference ticket. We can easily cater for vegetarian, vegan, and people unable to eat food containing gluten, dairy or nuts. Please let us know if there is anything else we should be aware of.

Access: The conference, exhibition, workshops and refrenshments are all on one level (accessible by wide shallow stairs and a lift) and we can easily accommodate wheelchair users. The loos (Male, Female and Disabled) are also on the same level.

Hearing: All the conference talks will be spoken in English. The talks will be auto-captioned and there is a hearing loop system for hearing aid users. We do not have an interpreter for people who struggle with English, but if there is enough interest we are happy to look into this.

Carers: If you are accompanied by a carer there will be no charge for the carer.

Assistance dogs: Seeing, hearing and assistance dogs are welcome and we can provide bowls of water.
