About this Event

يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ

``O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous' [82:6]

Every week we will take a detailed look at the core principles of Liberalism and Islam's response to them, drawing upon key thinkers such as John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, Mary Wollstonecraft, John S Mill and Betty Friedan, and placing their views in their historical context.

The aim of this course is to establish the Islamic Way of Thinking and explore how from its early days, Islam put great emphasis on re-fashioning the mind and making the human being a worshipper of Allah alone.

The course will consist of eight sessions. Each session will be delivered in an interactive format, with visuals, discussions and smaller groups.

Themes to be covered:

  1. Islam and thinking – how can the rational mind accept the verdict of God?
  2. Equality and Islam? Feminism, toxic masculinity and Islam’s view
  3. Consumerism and happiness – addressing the demoralised mind
  4. Poverty and inequality – liberal economics and Islam’s answer
  5. Disagreements – how to manage differences within Muslims and society
  6. Does religion cause wars? Secularism and its claim of peace
  7. How to attain closeness to Allah (SWT) in a materialistic world
  8. Globalisation and the liberal world order
