Event description

Description

Yorkshire Velo Tours in association with The Commute present the Three Hill Thriller ride on Saturday 22nd April in aid of Child Bereavement UK.

The route is 40 miles with 1,168m vertical ascent

Key climbs: Norwood edge, Hartwith Bank, Nought Bank Road (with a few other undulations along the way!)

Route can be viewed here 100 riders max.

Entry on-line or in person at The Commute (on-line entry includes 90p Eventbrite booking fee)

Start time: 9:30am from The Commute, 20 Leeds Road, Ilkley, LS29 8DS

Commute opening time: 8:30am for registration, coffees and snacks

Yorkshire Velo Tours will facilitate the ride, which covers a well tried and tested route. Although it is only 40 miles it presents riders with 3 tasty climbs, which all feature in Simon Warren’s Yorkshire Climbs book. It’s great training if you’re building up to a hilly sportive or just want to get some serious climbing in, but don’t want to commit to a really long full day ride. The scenery is splendid too as you travel out of the Wharfe Valley into Nidderdale and then return again via the Washburn Valley.

The event is a social ride. It is non-competitive, you do not get an official time for completing the route. Riders will be set off in ‘waves’ with the faster riders first. Riders of all abilities are encouraged to take part and hopefully share a chat along the way!

A few YVT ride leaders will ride the route and offer guidance etc, but it is not formal led ride. There will be a ‘sweeper’ riding at the back, but no vehicle or other support on the ride. Riders can form groups, but we would advise that they are no bigger than 8 riders as this could risk the safety of the group and other road users. Yorkshire Velo Tours are not directing the ride in any way when riders are out on the road and riders are responsible for their own behaviour, which should be in line with the Highway Code and be courteous to other cyclists and road users.

There are no planned stops neither is there food or drink on the route, so please come prepared.

There will not be any route markings, so riders are responsible for navigating the route themselves. After entering on Eventbrite you will be sent a copy of the ‘route essentials’ guide (which includes a map) for this route and a gpx file for use with Garmin etc

The proceeds from the entry fee + 10% of sales at The Commute will go to the charity Child Bereavement UK who support families and educate professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.
