The Toolkit of the Effective Manager

Managing & Motivating People (For SLTs & other AHPs)

Online Workshop

Join me, Ruth, from ARC Supervision & CPD for an Online Workshop focused on The Tookit of the Effective Manager: Managing and Motivating People Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and other Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).

Other professionals are more than welcome to attend, please email Ruth, then the content is adapted to meet your needs in attending the course.

Why this Workshop?

I'm an SLT who wanted to move from being a specialist therapist to leading a team. I did a 'management course' and learned about leadership. Eventually I managed Integrated Teams of children's healthcare professionals and the administrators who support teams.

These days we hear about Leadership (and we should!), but it became obvious when takiing to colleagues attending ARC Study Days on Supervision and Leadership that there was a big gap in courses about 'being a manager'. Management isn't a word which is 'in vogue,' but many therapists are managing others and need to know what the Management Toolkit includes.

It is a little ambitious to offer you a whistlestop tour of management 'know-how'. However you will 'know more than you think' and after being introduced to the Tools you can do further independent study.

Additional Mentoring Supervision Option

A package which includes 2 mentoring supervision sessions with me, alongside the Workshop is available for an additional £130, so the course cost is £280.

What are the Themes?

You might be a first line manager of a colleague or a team leader or leading your own independent enterprise. What you will be doing is providing Management Support in the workplace. The skillset overlaps, but is distinct from Leadership.

So I thought back to what I needed when I was managing a team of 6, then a team of 25 and then a service of 46 people. What mistakes did I make? What training and development helped? What did I need to be able to support people delivering therapy in a complex environment?

So, here it is. A Workshop about Being an Effective Manager

This event is designed to provide insights and strategies for those who manage other people. The emphasis is on motivating and supporting the individual people in a team. This Workshop is not about strategic management.

  • You and your management style
  • Developing and motivating people
  • Managing by Objectives
  • Change Management
  • Managing Yourself
  • Team Direction and Success Factors

See below for the full Agenda

The Workshop draws on evidence based management , my own knowledge and experience, offering strategies that are practically useful.

Whether you are a team leader, supervisor, or manager, this event is an opportunity to spend a day reflecting on your skillset, learning new knowledge and networking with other professionals.
