Event description

Description

‘A novel of exhilarating intellectual inquiry, penetrating social insight and deep psychological sensitivity... To the extent that we can speak of a future at present, I think the future of the novel is here’

—Sally Rooney, author of Normal People & Conversations with Friends

Feted American author Ben Lerner comes to Foyles to discuss his masterful, highly-anticipated third novel The Topeka School with literary journalist Alex Clark.

Adam Gordon is a senior student in the class of ’97 at Topeka High School. A popular debater, orator and aspiring poet, things begins to unravel when he is involved in a situation in which one of the school outsiders is invited into the centre of the social scene—with disastrous consequences.

One of the most eagerly-awaited novels of the Autumn, The Topeka School is a brave and engrossing novel exploring toxic masculinity, mental illness, the challenges involved in raising ‘good’ young men, and how the political atmosphere of the 90s paved the way to a Trumpian future.

The event will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

Tickets: £20 including a copy of The Topeka School (RRP £16.99) / £8 standard / £5 Foyalty member*. When purchasing a Foyalty or Student ticket, you'll need to bring a valid in-date Student card or Foyalty card with you.

Venue: Level 6, Foyles 107 Charing Cross Road
