The Treecreepers Birdwatching Group

This Treecreepers session will be at Musselburgh Lagoons and the mouth of the River Esk to discover the huge (hopefully!) numbers of winter migrants that fly down from the north to spend winter in our milder climate. The area is relatively small but with a wide variety of bird species thanks to varied habitat including mudflats, sea, lagoons, scrapes, scrub and woodland. There are also hides we can sit in to observe the birds and improve our wader and duck ID. Hopefully we will get to see Pink-footed Geese, Greylag Geese, Lapwings, Dunlin, Knot, Twite, Linnet and many many more. Every experience level welcome!

For those who want to we could wait around after the session has officially finished as there can be stunning displays as the birds fly to their roosts at sunset.

The group is non-hierarchical so, whilst I will loosely organise and time keep, the session structure and flow will be shaped by everyone to facillitate knowledge sharing and community. This group is for people aged 18-35 only.

Wear appropriate clothes and footwear for the weather forecast. The lagoons, especially the hides where you sit still for periods of time, can be extremely cold please come prepared!! If you have binoculars, ID books or anything else you think you may want, please do bring along. There are refreshments and toilets in the town centre. Please arrive a bit early if you want to purchase anything before the walk.

Pricing:

I am just one person running and organising this group so, in order for this to be sustainable long term for me, I charge a small fee per session. This covers my time at the Living Wage rate with any excess income reinvested in the group. Pricing is as follows:

• Supporter Rate: £8. For those who have more than enough to comfortably meet their needs and non-essentials. This will help make the sessions accessible to others and supports my work.
• Standard Rate: £5. For those who can cover their needs with some extra for non-essentials.
• Accessible Rate: £3. For those who struggle to afford anything beyond basic necessities(e.g. on benefits or unemployed).

No questions asked, choose what works for you. Your presence matters most!

Want to pay in Cash?

Eventbrite adds a service fee to all tickets. To avoid this extra cost I am happy to take cash in person at the beginning of the session. Please email thetreecreepers@outlook.com to register for a space in advance.

**If you are emailing to book, your initial email must contain your first and last name and the rate you want to pay to ensure your place.**

Ts&Cs: If you agree to pay cash on the day and cancel after the refund period or do not show up, I will email you an invoice to pay which may require you to pay fees. An invoice is a legally binding document.

Accessibility:

The majority of the walk will take place on grass and mud tracks with some paved paths. It is mostly flat with some gently sloped areas. I will endeavour to make our route, pace and distance accessible to all attendees where possible.

There are numerous bus routes that all stop close to the meeting point. There is also Musselburgh train station approx. 25 min walk away.
