Event description

Description

[Foreign Affairs] theatre company presents the world and English language premiere of the play The Unburied. The Saint of Darkness by award-winning playwright and poet András Visky in a new translation by Jozefina Komporaly.

The play is a bold and poetic take on Antigone’s story, featuring Mother Teresa as a contemporary reflection of the Greek protagonist. Experiencing a similar sense of responsibility, duty and mission as her fabled counterpart, Teresa faces society’s utter inability to deal with the inequalities in the world, through tragedies such as forced migration.

Co-directed by the company’s artistic directors, an ensemble of four actors of different nationalities will play Teresa in a promenade performance in which the audience will literally travel on a journey with the title character. Visky, essayist and resident dramaturg and associate artistic director at Cluj-Napoca Hungarian Theatre in Romania and also a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts (Hungary), will attend and take part in two post-show talks.

Commissioned and presented by [Foreign Affairs] this production of The Unburied. The Saint of Darkness is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Arts Council England.

Post-show talks:
20 & 21 Nov - Author & Translator
22 Nov - Women in theatre
24 Nov - Theatre in translation
25 Nov - Collaborative theatre-making

*Please note that the performance on Thursday 23 will be a closed session for a local youth group.
