Event description

Description

This afternoon session follows the festival tradition of raising awareness of prevalent social issues through the arts. We have invited the founder of Autism Independence Nura Aabe who will be starring in a ‘One woman show’ to raise awareness about autism and particularly within the Somali Community. Also, Muna Hassan will be presenting the correlation that exists between miss-behavior at school in earlier years and the criminal justice system in later years. Muna is in her final year of university studying international relations and she is very passionate about understanding and highlighting the often time overlooked the connection between mental health and the criminal justice system in BAME communities. A broader discussion will be opened up for the audience to take part after the speakers are finished their presentations. Furthermore, the lawyer and the activist Zahra Ahmed will also participate in the discussion. She is recognized as the most high profile solicitor in the Somali community and she is well known for engaging in the community and discussing the issues that the community is facing and advising members on several legal matters.
