The Unhidden Face of Abuse: Domestic Abuse and Older People
Following the success of The Hidden Face of Abuse conference, this second event – The Unhidden Face of Abuse – focuses on the often overlooked experiences of older people. Domestic abuse does not stop with age, yet older victims and survivors are too often hidden from view by assumptions, stereotypes, and a lack of awareness.
This event is designed to make people pause and think more critically about how they act, respond, and provide support when older people are affected by domestic abuse.
The event will bring together a range of Hull and East Riding organisations and services to:
- Challenge the assumptions we often make about older people and domestic abuse.
- Highlight real-life case examples that uncover the complexity of abuse in later life, and what we can learn from these
- Explore local and national specialist support and services that are available for older people in our area.
- Allow individual reflection on professional practice, exploring how we can all respond more effectively to those impacted by domestic abuse.
Building on the conversations started at The Hidden Face of Abuse, this conference aims to bring older people’s experiences into the open.
There will be a range of speakers as well as Information Stalls from local organisations and opportunity for networking.
Tea and Coffee is provided
- If you would like to host a Information Stall at this event please email: natalie.spikings@ageukhey.org.uk
