11.00am - 11.30pm - Meet with Chemistry Teaching Staff from the University of Wolverhampton - discuss the course

11.30am - 12.30pm - “Weapons of Mass Detection” – Mass Spectrometry Workshop (1 hour)

  • Interpretation of spectra:

  • Isotope patterns

12.30pm - 1.00pm - BREAK – Free tea / Coffee (please bring your own food)

1.00pm - 1.45pm - “Spec in a Suitcase” – Infrared Spectroscopy Demonstration and Workshop (45 minutes)

  • How the technique works
  • Applications
  • Interpretation of spectra: identifying functional groups & using the fingerprint region
  • Hands on demonstration of a spectrometer

1.45pm-2.00pm Collect course material and prospectus
