The Unobtainable Chamber Workshop
With artist Lisa Scantlebury

An exciting afternoon of clay exploration using hard and soft slab building techniques, considering form, function and decoration.

Two sessions are taking place at 2–3.30pm and 3.30–5pm (please select your preferred timeslot when booking.)

Lisa Scantlebury is a visual artist who works with sculpture and print and is also co-director of Plenderleith Scantlebury, fabricators of fine art and design based at Spike Island, Bristol.

Her artwork falls into two categories: sculptural installations which include constructed objects, print and found objects made for gallery exhibition, and temporary works for commission in the public realm.

Lisa also teaches pottery at Potstop, obtaining a BA (Hons) Ceramics at the University of Cardiff in 1994, where she worked in clay with a focus on the form and function of pottery. She is currently writing “A jug to put on my back”, a critical exploration of clay inspired by the work of Czech graphic artist Nadežda Plíšková.

In her business, Lisa offers a link between the artist and art production, providing consultation on ideas, knowledge and vision development, as well as the realisation of artists’ works.

Spike Island

Spike Island is an international centre for the development of contemporary art and design. Based in Bristol, UK, it is home to a gallery, café and working space for artists, designers and creative businesses. A vibrant hub for production, presentation and debate, we offer opportunities for audiences to engage directly with creative practices through participation and discussion.

Our vision is to position art as central to society, which we do in two ways: by offering a high quality, challenging programme of exhibitions and events; and by fostering a dynamic and critically engaged community of artists and designers. Spike Island collaborates with local and regional partners as well as with international institutions, museums and universities.
